Nepali Film – Kusume Rumal (1985)

Kusume Rumal (Scarlet Handkerchief) was one of the most successful moves of the time. The movie established Bhuwan KC as an actor. The movie was produced by Sumitra Paudel under the banner of Sayapatri Films and was directed by the noted director Tulsi Ghimire.

The movie featured Bhuwan KC, Tripti Nadakar, Udit Narayan Jha, Tulsi Ghimire, Nir Shah in lead roles. The music in the movie was composed by Ranjit Gazmer.

This was the movie in which the popular Bollywood singer Udit Narayan Jha debuted as an actor. That was before he went to Mumbai to test his luck.

Records

  • "Kusume Rumal" was a huge box office success and the highest-grossing movie of the time until another Tulsi Ghimire film "Darpan Chaya" broke its record in 2001.
  • The movie was the first Nepali movie to spend 25 weeks in the box office top ten list and the first actual blockbuster.

In 2009, the son of the producer of this original "Kusume Rumal" directed The "Kusume Rumal-2" the story of the second generation of the original cast. It was however a total failure when compared to the original movie. Actors Tripti and Nir Shah had acted in short roles in the new movie.
