Nepali Film – Maina (2013)

Nepali movie “Maina” is made on a true story of a girl, Maina Sunar, who was raped and killed by Nepal Army personnel on February 19, 2004 (on Falgun 7, 2060). During the conflict situation of Maoist insurgency, the government forces (and the rebels) were involved in various human right violations.

‘Maina’ is the account of human right violation by the state during the conflict and the story of the 15-year-old girl. Although a premier show of the movie was held in Kathmandu on November 10, 2008 the movie was officially released on February 15, 2013.

14 year old Maina Sunar was arrested from her home at Kharelthok, Kavrepalanchowk by the Army on the accusation that she was a Maoist cadet. She was tortured in the Army barracks and was killed in custody.
